HVAC Technician Jobs in 2010 and Beyond

If you are interested in technical things like maintaining air conditioning, heating, venilation, refriferation and installing and troubleshooting, then a HVAC technician job may be for you These professionals are qualified to read blueprints, and analyze potential sites for new air systems, make recommendations, and install complex air units. A certified technician may specialize in one or all of these areas and generally command an excellent salary for his or her knowledge.

The key to being marketable as an HVAC specialist is having the right credentials. An individual may obtain his or her professional certification via any number of air conditioning schools. These can be online or on-site programs and usually last from 6 months to 24 months. Some people choose to forgo certification in favor of an apprentice program, which is essentially on-the-job training under the direction of an already established technician. While this saves on the cost of going to school, in the long run the person may have a more difficult time entering the job market as a well compensated technician.

It's not enough to attend just any school in hopes that it will be enough to meet the qualifications on a potential employer. This is why it is essential that you thoroughly research the college to make sure it pases muster. Its important to look for programs that are accredited through reputable agencies such as HVAC Excellence, the Partnership for Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Accreditation, and the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Many employers limit their potential applicants according to whether or not the individual is certified through a respectable or notable program.

HVAC technicians have very promising careers. The demand was much higher during the times of the housing boom when construction projects were rampant. Even now, with the decline of new construction, a specialist can still do fairly well by just maintaining existing systems.Therefore, take heart in knowing that no matter where you are located, there is a job for you. Especially due to the fact that there are so many government initiatives to promote energy conservation. This is spurring business and home owners to revamp thier entire systems.

With that said, a career in HVAC is a one that holds a lot of promise for anyone seeking a new career.
